Cocktail: Blue Moon

“Once in a blue moon”: the famous phrase comes from the rare occurrence of more than one full moon appearing within a month. In fact, this unusual astrological event only happens every two or three years.

This classic tipple, named after the Blue Moon, is similar to the more famous Aviation cocktail. It is thought to have been invented in 1940 by Oscar Tschirky of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York – the same man who is credited with inventing Eggs Benedict and the Waldorf Salad. Now that’s the makings of pretty amazing brunch. Cheers!

Blue Moon

60ml Gin
15ml Crème de Violette
15ml Lemon juice
Lemon twist to garnish

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with a lemon zest twist.
